The valuation gap.

Why growing companies trade below their value, and the four disciplines that close the gap.

BoxTop · November 2026 · 4 min read

Your business is growing, but your share price isn’t.

That’s the valuation gap. It’s one of the most frustrating places a public company can be: revenue is up, the strategy is working and the balance sheet is stronger, but the stock hasn’t moved.

Usually the fundamentals are fine. The market just hasn’t understood the story yet.

Why the gap opens

  • The strategy moves faster than the narrative. The business has changed, but the story investors hear hasn’t caught up.
  • Trading volume is too thin to get noticed. Few investors are watching, so progress goes unpriced.
  • No one is validating the case. Without analyst coverage, investors have to do the work themselves, and most won’t.
  • The shareholder base doesn’t fit. The wrong investors, or simply too few, for where the company is heading.

Markets can’t price what they don’t understand.

How to close it

  1. Tell the investment case. Not what you do, but why you belong in a portfolio, in the language investors use.
  2. Target with intent. The right shareholders, not just more of them. Conviction holds through volatility.
  3. Build visibility. Liquidity, analyst coverage and corporate access. Be seen by the people who set the price.
  4. Stay consistent. Especially when the story changes. Credibility compounds, and so does doubt.

Closing the gap isn’t about issuing more news releases. It takes a clear investment case, the right investors in the room and a consistent message over time.

Performance earns attention. Clarity earns valuation.
